Tokyo - Day 4 Ochanomizu, Akihabara, Ueno, Roppongi

As planned, we stayed in Tokyo today. We first went to an area called Ochanomizu, famous for their guitar stores. Divide the prices by a hundred to get an idea of the Cdn price:
It's too bad this is the beginning leg of our trip, not the last, as I would have probably bought another guitar.

We then took the JR train line one stop to Akihabara, the "electric town". This is where this sad and unfortunate event happened a couple months ago.

The wife loves her stationary!

There were two aisles of these toys!

PS3s in three colours

We then went to Ueno, originally to go to the famous park and zoo, but decided it was too hot. So, surprise, we went shopping instead, first to a department store, then to the HUGE outdoor shopping area, which reminded me of Bangkok (our next destination).

We had heard of these capsule hotels before

T-shirts were stylish and cost up to 6000 yen. Some were interesting and recent.

We had our first fruit in a while, from this vendor stand. We tried two chilled pineapple wedges served on long sticks:
Vive le Canada!

Our final stop was Roppongi Hills. As opposed to Ueno, this was a more upscale shopping area. Mori tower, a 54 story highrise consisting of shops, cinemas, restaurants, a Grand Hyatt hotel, and offices of Goldman-Sachs and Yahoo! Japan:

On the subway back, I snapped this photo. People are either sleeping or texting during their trip home. Some do both en même temps.
We had dinner at a tempura joint near our hotel.
Another shot of Shinjuku at night

Tomorrow, we're meeting up with an old friend from university. He's been here six years teaching English! We were going to do another day trip, out to Hakone, but decided against it. We'll tour some new parts of Tokyo and try some more interesting food, I'm sure.
